Mother pleads not guilty to manslaughter charge over toddler's death

A woman charged in relation to the death of her two-year-old son has pleaded not guilty in the Lautoka High Court.

Vaseva Kabu is charged with one count of manslaughter arising from breach of duty.

It is alleged that on 18th October 2017 in Tavua, Kabu neglected to supervise her toddler while travelling on a bus.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecution alleges the child put his head outside the bus window and became trapped between the bus and an Energy Fiji Limited post, resulting in his death.

The State and the defence have been directed to resolve any pre-trial issues before the next court date.

The matter has been adjourned to 16th July for a pre-trial conference, while Kabu's bail has been extended.
