A 38-year-old man has died after he was allegedly assaulted by two men in Sigatoka yesterday.
Police say a father and son are in custody at the Sigatoka Police Station.
They say the victim and two 16-year-old students were allegedly assaulted by the two suspects after they were confronted over an incident involving one of the victim’s farm animals.
The victim was later found unconscious by his brother with injuries.
Police say the three victims were taken to Sigatoka Hospital, where the 38-year-old man was transferred to Nadi Hospital and later to Lautoka Hospital.
Attempts to revive him proved futile, and he was pronounced dead.
The two suspects remain in custody as investigations continue.
A postmortem examination will be conducted to ascertain the victim’s cause of death.
Meanwhile, a Sigatoka resident told fijivillage News that the 38-year-old man had been horse riding with his sons in Mateqe, Sigatoka, when the alleged incident occurred.
The resident alleged that the suspects were drunk and had brutally assaulted the three victims.
The resident says the two sons remain admitted at Lautoka Hospital.
