Police are investigating the death of one of their own officers, after he was found dead in Sigatoka Town this morning.
The Fiji Police Force confirmed the victim's identity today, stating that the circumstances surrounding the officer's death remain under investigation.
A post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the cause of death, with further details to be released as investigations progress.
Reports coming in suggest that the man was smelling of alcohol.
However Police will speak further after the post mortem is conducted.
Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu has extended the organisation's deepest sympathies to the officer's family during this difficult time.
With the death of the officer, questions are being raised on the still unresolved murder of Police Constable Peniasi Racagi.
The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions has said that they are awaiting further investigations from police, in particular the post mortem report and DNA evidence which was sent to Australia for testing in relation to the murder of Police Constable Racagi.
The Office of the DPP made these comments to fijivillage News after we asked them on what is happening with the murder file.
The Office says once further investigations are completed, they can confirm their position in the matter.
Tudravu confirms the forensic results are yet to be received.
24 year old Constable Racagi was murdered in Lami on the 22nd of February this year.
The two men earlier charged with the murder of Constable Racagi were discharged after the Office of the DPP withdrew the charges against the two.
The charges against the two men were withdrawn after delays by police in submitting supporting documents to prosecutors.
Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu had earlier said that he accepts full responsibility on behalf of the organisation for the delay in submitting documents required by the prosecution.
The Police Commissioner said disciplinary action has also been directed against officers responsible for the delayed submissions.
Tudravu said pending investigation reports and expert findings will be resubmitted, while the investigation file relating to the alleged involvement of police officers will also be forwarded to the ODPP for review before independent legal advice is rendered.
Police had earlier stated that their investigations focused into two avenues of the officer's death and Police involvement.
