Man killed in Sawani crash as Police probe alleged alcohol involvement

A man has died following a motor vehicle accident in Sawani this morning, with police believing alcohol may have been a contributing factor.

Police say the victim was driving towards Navatuvula Village when he lost control of the vehicle, causing it to leave the road and crash into a tree.

The victim was travelling with two passengers, who also sustained injuries and are receiving treatment at the Nausori Health Centre.

Police say a post-mortem examination will be carried out as investigations into the incident continue.

In a separate investigation, Savusavu Police are treating the death of a 54-year-old farmer from Vakativa Village as an alleged hit-and-run.

The victim was found lying motionless on the roadside on the morning of 5th July with visible injuries.

Police say the cause and classification of the man's death will be determined following a post-mortem examination.

The Fiji Police Force is once again urging all road users to adopt a responsible mindset and prioritise road safety to help prevent further tragedies.
