A Flash Flood and Heavy Rain Warning remains in force for Fiji.

The Nadi Weather Office says an active trough of low pressure with associated cloud and rain currently affects the country.

They say this will bring occassional rain, heavy at times and few thunderstorms today.

Possible impacts include flash flooding of flood-prone, low lying informal settlements/communities, businesses and Irish crossings leading to traffic disruptions.

It can also cause surface flooding on streets in urban areas with poor drainage.

The National Disaster Risk Management Office is warning people to stay away and refrain from attempting to cross or swim in flooded areas.

They are also saying for people to contact the Fiji Police Force or the National Fire Authority should they need assistance to move to higher ground.

The NDRMO says roads may become slippery, creating hazardous and a higher risk of accidents, avoid flooded areas, delay non-essential travel, and use alternative routes where possible.

They say for households to be prepared and for children to be supervised at all times, look out for neighbours especially the elderly and those with special needs.

Emergency numbers are 910 for Fire, EFL is 913, 917 for Police, 5777 for WAF and 5720 for Fiji Roads Authority.
