Today marked a historic moment on the second-last day of Suva Grammar School’s 65th Sapphire Celebration, as the school formally acknowledged the traditional landowners of the land it now occupies, the Tui Suva and the Vanua o Nadonumai.

The traditional presentation was carried out by the senior students.

This is the first time in Suva Grammar’s 65-year history that such an acknowledgment has been made.

Tui Suva, Ratu Sanaila Madanavosa reminded the school to uphold what it is known for, especially in nurturing the future leaders of Fiji through culture and tradition.

Ratu Sanaila also highlighted that the people are deeply connected to the Vanua, and the future of the nation depends on how well we nurture today’s generation.

School Principal Iosefo Masivue acknowledged the support of students, staff, and alumni in making the event a success.

Alumni from the 1960s and 1970s were the VIP guests at today’s celebration.

The celebration continues today with the Fun Fair and the 2010 decade hosting the Rumble in the Jungle event, while the final celebration, the Grand Ball, will be held tomorrow at the Vodafone Arena.
