The printing of postal voting ballot papers has started at Star Printery with 20,000 ballot papers to go through the first phase of printing.

Supervisor of Elections, Mohammed Saneem says with the conclusion of the candidates list ball draw this morning, they have begun the printing of ballot papers.

He says ballot papers is one of the highest volume items of material produced for an election and one of the most sensitive and important material.

Saneem says it is essential for free and fair elections that ballot papers are designed in a manner which is easily understandable for voters.

The Supervisor adds that the design is based on the schedule in the Electoral Act and while designing the ballot papers they have taken into account some important elements.

Saneem adds that no one can duplicate the ballot papers and they have strict security in all their warehouses.

Expect the campaigns of all political parties to intensify as they also start campaigning on their candidate numbers until the morning of December 12th.

According to Fiji’s Electoral Act, the ballot paper will have candidate numbers, and people have to circle, tick or cross one candidate number.

The General Elections will be held on December 14th while the pre poll in selected areas and on selected times will be held from December 5th to 9th.
