COMPOL urges people to share information with Police to fight crime

People are raising concerns about a rise in burglaries in areas like Lajonia, Labasa and open drug dealings and drug usage in areas such as Suva, Nadi and Lautoka.

They are also fearing victimisation if they report crimes, and are now calling for stronger police intervention.

Some residents have expressed concerns to fijivillage News that drug dealing is occurring openly, with shoes always hanging from power lines allegedly marking drug-selling spots — a code used by dealers in many regions.

When questioned by fijivillage News on these serious concerns, Tudravu acknowledged that drug dealers often have specific styles and patterns in the way they operate, which can differ from place to place.

He is urging residents to share any information they have, no matter how minor, to help police crack down on drug networks.

In response to questions from fijivillage News regarding residents' concerns in Labasa about organised burglaries and fear of victimisation when reporting crimes, Police Commissioner Tudravu confirmed that investigations are underway, and one person has already been charged in connection with the reported cases.

He says police have stepped up their visibility and community policing efforts in the area to deter criminal activity and ensure the safety of those who provide information.

People have also raised concerns about compromised police officers and information leaks to dealers where residents claim that drug dealers often vacate the area before police arrive or move the drugs to a different location.

Tudravu emphasized that contact numbers for Divisional Police Commanders and the Command Centre in the Northern Division and other Divisions have been circulated and should be used to report criminal activity.

He says he trusts that those concerns will be dealt with if reports are received from members of the public.
