Fijians living in Australia have donated 2.7 million KN95 face masks worth around $1.1 million to support our health staff as they continue to work tirelessly to protect us from this crisis.
While receiving the masks at the Vodafone Arena from Australia based Reach 4 Your Future Foundation Inc, Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama has assured the health workers that they will make every accommodation necessary for them to perform their duty and protect Fijians.
Bainimarama says the donation is a testament to the solidarity that binds our global Fijian family.
He has thanked the Foundation representatives, Ganesh Chand and Wallaby, Samu Kerevi for being a champion of this program.
The Prime Minister says providing our health workers the best available personal protective equipment has been a top priority for the government since the start of the pandemic.
He says the protection these masks will offer and the lives they will help save is priceless.
Bainimarama also says that we are well ahead of our schedule to vaccinate 80% adults in Fiji by the end of October.
He has reiterated that as we achieve new thresholds for fully vaccinated adults in Fiji, they will carefully roll back some of the health protection measures and eventually re-open the borders.
