Counter Ruck Limited to operate Fijian Drua Women's team

Counter Ruck Limited to operate Fijian Drua Women's team

Fijian Drua CEO Mark Evans and Fiji Rugby Union Interim Chair Peter Mazey seal the agreement with a handshake.

The Fijian Drua Women’s team will now operate with the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua in the upcoming Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific and the Super W Competition.

This is after the MOU signing today by the trustees of the Fiji Rugby Union and Counter Ruck Limited.

The Fijiana Drua name has also been changed to the Fijian Drua Women’s team because people tend to misinterpret the Fijiana name as the national women’s rugby team.

While speaking at the signing, Fiji Rugby Union Interim Chair Peter Mazey says the trustees of Fiji Rugby are very proud of their relationship that started with Counter Ruck Limited.

He says as the major shareholder of the Fijian Drua, they are grateful for that investment.

Mazey says this has now been seen as their fastest-growing asset for Fiji Rugby.

He adds the success of the Fijian Drua is now an opportunity for women’s rugby.

Fijian Drua CEO Mark Evans says this is a great opportunity for the Fijian Drua Women’s side as they prepare for the 2024 Super W Competition.

He says we have a lot of talented rugby women on the islands, but we tend to lose too many elite players because there is no pathway.

The 2024 Super W Competition will start on the 15th of February, while the Fijian Drua Women’s team's first match will be against the Reds on the 17th.

Meanwhile, the 2024 Shop Save Super Rugby Pacific season will start on the 23rd of February, with the Fijian Drua playing the Blues on the 24th in their first match.
