Police warn Wailevu villagers not to enter school, government premises without authorisation

Villagers in Wailevu, Cakaudrove are being reminded to respect their school compound and government stations, as these are government properties that require proper authorisation to enter.

Fiji Police Force’s Sexual Offence and Child Abuse Unit, Inspector Unaisi Mateiwai shared during their visitation on villagers that two years ago, Police received several complaints about youths entering the school premises after 5pm for training.

Mateiwai says that every day at 5.30pm, the flag at the State House is lowered, which also marks the end of official working hours at government stations, as civil servants return home.

Mateiwai also stresses that after 5.30pm, no activities or playing should take place on school grounds.

She says that the police cannot take action unless a formal report is made by the head of the school.

Mateiwai adds it is important to respect the school and all government stations in the community.

She is also reminding youths that outsiders are not allowed to enter the school compound to drink grog with teachers, but proper permission must be obtained from the school head.

She confirms that a few youths from some villages have been charged with criminal trespass.
