The Reserve Bank of Fiji expects the Business Process Outsourcing sector to become a $300 million industry in the next 24 months.

RBF Governor, Ariff Ali says the BPO sector is expected to bring in $200 million this year.

He says at the beginning of last year, there were about 3,000 jobs in the BPO sector in Fiji.

By the end of this year, the total number of jobs is expected to increase to 5,000.

Ali says the BPO sector is expanding and is not just call centre operations.

The outsourcing services include insurance, accounting and IT support amongst others.

The RBF Governor also says there are opportunities in growing other industries apart from tourism and these include mining with Tuvatu Gold Mine in operation, and agriculture.

He adds we can also focus on areas like medical tourism and there are many opportunities in retirement homes, where we do not just have tourists coming and leaving after 7 to 8 days.
