Cane farmers to receive special Diwali payment

Good news for sugarcane farmers as they will be receiving a special cane payment before Diwali.

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has announced that cane farmers will receive a record final payout of $101.13 per tonne for the 2024 sugarcane crop.

Rabuka confirms that the Government will once again provide a further top-up in the final cane payment before Diwali, with an additional $8.27, raising the fourth and final payment to $9.47.

He says this boost ensures that the total payout for the 2024 season reaches $101.13 per tonne, the highest price ever recorded in Fiji’s sugar industry.

The Prime Minister highlighted that this assistance is being funded from the current 2025–2026 national budget, underlining Government’s commitment to supporting cane farmers and the sugar industry.
