WOWS Kids Fiji co-founder, Sina Kami says 57 children with childhood cancer are currently being supported by the foundation, and the total number of children over the age of five with cancer is around 70.

Kami highlighted this at the WOWS Kids Fiji Annual Walk and Zumba with Josh event saying it is not only about raising awareness, but also about remembering the little champions who have passed away due to cancer.

She says this event also serves as a reminder to parents that cancer is real and that it is our responsibility as parents to look out for early symptoms.

Kami says this morning’s walk carried the message “Walk On Walk Strong” for children currently fighting cancer, and in remembrance of those who have passed.

Kami adds that despite challenges faced by the foundation, such as limited financial assistance, these do not deter their efforts to continue serving children fighting to survive cancer.

Pediatrics Registrar at the CWM Hospital, Dr. Raynold Waisale, says there are nine active cases currently undergoing chemotherapy at CWM, while the Lautoka Aspen Hospital has three active cases undergoing the same treatment.

Dr. Waisale also highlighted that every year, they detect around 20 to 30 new cases of childhood cancer.

He adds today is a day to support the little champions who are suffering from cancer.
