1 to 2 tropical cyclones are likely to pass through Fiji’s Exclusive Economic Zone during the cyclone season from November this year to April next year.

The Nadi Weather Office confirms 1 cyclone is likely to reach severe category 3 to 5.

There is an equal risk of tropical cyclones affecting any part of Fiji.

The peak cyclone activity is expected from January to February, though cyclones can form anytime during the season, and even out of season tropical cyclones cannot be ruled out.

Tropical disturbances or depressions (even those that don’t reach tropical cyclone strength) can still cause strong winds, heavy rain, landslides, and flooding.

People are urged to stay alert and prepared throughout the season, and to follow all official advisories.
