Expect brilliant Fijian designers to take centre stage at the Vodafone Fiji Fashion Week 2024 - Resort Cruise Show this evening where designers such as Hupfield Hoerder, Tracy Ann Ferrington and Zulfikar Ali will bring their latest designs on the runway.

Other designers include Temesia Tuicaumia, Bex Peterson, Samoan designer, Malu o Aiga who will focus on the Fa'afafine culture, Libby Ah Kee, Litimai Qoroniyasi, Hilda Mondo, Cynthia Cebujano and Selina Talakuli.

FJFW Managing Director Ellen Whippy-Knight says the industry has made a remarkable progression but to get to the next level and make Fijian fashion more accessible is the difficult step.

She says there are about 30 Fijian designers who are making money and have their commercial businesses.

Whippy-Knight however, says there is a need for a fashion school and government assistance to get the industry to the next stage.

She says Fijian designers are exclusive because they do not have a lot of stock.

Whippy-Knight says local designers need to develop their businesses, and ensure that their garments are aesthetically wearable and pleasing to the foreigner.

She says they will also be launching the Pacific Islands Fashion Week in October this year and will have the show next year in Fiji.

Whippy-Knight also revealed that through FJFW, there will be a fashion section at the 13th Festival of Pacific Arts and Culture next month.

Meanwhile, the Resort Cruise Show is expected to start at 6pm at the Vodafone Arena today while the Resort Luxe show will be held tomorrow at 6pm at the Vodafone Arena.
