4 venues in the Western Division remain to conduct pre-polling

The Fijian Elections Office has revealed that upon completion of the 5th day of Pre‑Poll, only 4 venues remain to conduct pre‑polling.

These four venues are situated in the Western Division.

The Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem has reiterated the need for voters to identify the venues they are listed to vote at.

While responding to a media query he has said that everyone was given ample time before the issuance of the writ of elections to actually find out where they are listed to vote.

He says the text platform 1500 is free of charge and people can also call on the same number to find out where they are listed to vote.

Saneem has also raised concern with regards to a press statement sent out by the Fiji Labour Party which shares sentiments of how people have been deprived of their right to vote.

This he believes is following the recent reports of voters that have been denied the rights to vote.

He has also highlighted that no representatives from the Fiji Labour Party were present at any of the pre‑poll venues.

Saneem explained to the media present at the press conference that voters can only vote at the venues that they are listed to vote at.

Fiji Times had earlier published a misleading report saying that a number of people were deprived of voting during the pre-poll as their names did not appear on the voter list.

The Fijian Elections Office had clarified that all these people were registered however had turned up at wrong pre polling venues to vote.

The Fijian Elections Office is stressing that people have to check first where they have to vote.

Also present at the press conference was the Chairman of the Fiji’s Media Industry Development Authority, Ashwin Raj who has reiterated the need for media to follow the code of conduct and adhere to the rules relating to the 48 hour campaign blackout period.

He says the rules are the same for all media that are covering the elections be it local or overseas media.
