India’s official Oscar entry Homebound has moved a step closer to an Academy Award nomination after being named among the 15 shortlisted films in the Best International Feature Film category.

Directed by Neeraj Ghaywan, Homebound advanced to the next stage of voting following the initial round, with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences narrowing down entries from across the globe.

While a place on the shortlist does not guarantee a final nomination, it marks a significant milestone for the film in its Oscar journey.

The film features Ishaan Khatter, Vishal Jethwa and Janhvi Kapoor in pivotal roles.

The shortlist showcases a wide geographical spread, with other titles including Argentina’s Belén, Brazil’s The Secret Agent, France’s It Was Just an Accident, Palestine’s Palestine 36, and South Korea’s No Other Choice, among others.

The final nominations are scheduled to be announced on January 22.

Meanwhile, filmmaker Subodh Khanolkar’s Dashavatar has also entered the Oscars race, becoming the first Marathi film to be included in the Academy’s contention list, which is a historic moment for Marathi cinema.
