CWM staff raises concern over vehicle break-ins, police urge shared responsibility

Serious concerns have been raised regarding the safety and security of staff vehicles parked at the CWM Hospital premises.

A concerned CWM staff member has highlighted that, over an extended period, there have been repeated incidents of damage to staff vehicles while parked within and around the hospital.

He states that staff already face significant challenges in securing appropriate parking, and this ongoing issue has added considerable stress and anxiety.

The staff member further explains that CWM Hospital currently lacks adequate parking facilities for its staff due to ongoing maintenance works, stressing the main SOPD parking area has been closed, forcing staff to park along Extension Street.

He adds that vehicles parked in this area are being broken into on a near-daily basis, creating a serious safety and security concern.

He is requesting that appropriate and immediate security measures be implemented to safeguard staff vehicles and personal belongings.

Meanwhile, Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu has emphasised that vehicle owners must also take responsibility for the safety of their vehicles, as police cannot be present everywhere.

He also questioned the effectiveness of the security officers on duty, asking what actions they are taking to prevent such incidents.

Questions have been sent to the Ministry of Health.
