The Ministry of Health and Medical Services says it is addressing an incident where a security guard allegedly assaulted a patient who was waiting to be served at the Nausori Health Centre.
The Ministry says it will not tolerate any action that compromises the safety, well-being or dignity of patients.
It says everyone seeking medical assistance has the right to be treated with care, compassion and respect.
The Ministry says the patient has lodged a formal complaint with the Nausori Police Station and the matter is now being handled as a criminal case.
It says Police will conduct an independent investigation into the incident, while the Ministry will fully cooperate with Police as the case progresses.
