Escaped man under investigation for $20M tax fraud is a naturalised Fijian citizen

The man who is under Fiji Revenue and Customs Service investigation for alleged tax defraud of over $20 million and fled the country,  is a naturalized Fijian citizen.

FICAC is investigating how the man who is also a Chinese national, left the country despite a Stop Departure Order against him.

He left the country in April.

The alleged tax fraud began in 2019.

FRCS is yet to confirm when the order was issued against the man. 

They are also yet to confirm if the order was cancelled, and why the investigation has not concluded until now.

Minister for Immigration Viliame Naupoto has confirmed to fijivillage News that the matter is with FICAC.

He says they are working with FICAC and providing the information required for the investigation.

Naupoto has also confirmed that an internal investigation is underway at the Ministry of Immigration as FICAC's investigations continue. 

Meanwhile, FICAC says it has has never issued a Stop Departure Order against the Chinese national.
