Schools play a vital role in preserving culture while preparing young Fijians to become confident and capable citizens.
This was mentioned by Assistant Minister for Commerce and Business Development Sachida Nand during the Andhra Day Celebration at Lautoka Andhra Sangam Primary School.
Nand attended the celebration as Chief Guest in his dual capacity as Assistant Minister and National President of the Dakshina India Andhra Sangam of Fiji.
He highlighted that the celebration provided an important opportunity to reflect on the vision of the late Alapati Tataiya, whose leadership helped establish institutions that have educated generations of children across Fiji.
He says what began through faith, determination and community sacrifice has developed into a network of schools that continues to preserve culture, strengthen values and prepare young people to contribute meaningfully to national development.
Nand says schools such as Lautoka Andhra Sangam Primary School are more than places of learning, describing them as places where culture is preserved, discipline and values are instilled, and where young Fijians grow into confident and capable citizens.
He says education, community responsibility and economic progress remain closely connected, with a well-educated and community-minded population providing the foundation for a stronger nation.
Nand says the values promoted within the school, including hard work, integrity, service and mutual respect, will continue to guide students as they pursue careers as entrepreneurs, professionals and community leaders.
A highlight of the celebration was the unveiling of the school's first feature wall and three-dimensional signage, which he described as a visible expression of community pride and continued investment in the institution's future.
Nand says the new feature will also serve as a lasting tribute to Alapati Tataiya and the many community members who have carried his vision forward through their service and commitment.
He encouraged students to take pride in their heritage, respect their teachers, support one another and make full use of the opportunities created through the sacrifices of those who came before them.
He also acknowledged parents, teachers, school staff and the Dakshina India Andhra Sangam Lautoka Branch committee for their continued dedication to education and community development.
