Bench warrant issued for Gudru, bail hearing for Maharaj set for 20th Aug

A bench warrant has been issued for Ledua Gudru for not appearing in court this morning in relation to the alleged possession of a grenade and methamphetamine in February this year at Delanavesi.

Gudru is jointly charged with Zoe Maharaj in this case.

Maharaj was the only one that appeared in court this morning, before Suva Magistrate Joseph Daurewa.

Magistrate Daurewa told Maharaj that a qualified person should be present for bail as she has filed a discharge of summary.

Maharaj asked the court for a shorter date, however, Magistrate Daurewa said that all courtroom are facing the same circumstances and that she will be remanded again for 14-days.

The two are charged with one count of unlawful possession of illicit drugs, one count of possession of property suspected to be proceeds of crime, one count of possession of break-in implements, and one count of unlawful possession of explosives.

Gudru and Maharaj were allegedly found in possession of a grenade and 0.111 grams of methamphetamine on February 13th in Delainavesi.

The case has been adjourned to the 20th of this month.
