What many people see as rubbish, Nadi resident Petero Senianitu sees it as an opportunity.
A part-time driver and piggery farmer, Senianitu has been collecting recyclable plastic bottles and aluminium cans for the past three years.
Senianitu is taking advantage of he Government's Retun and Earn initiative where people trade clean plastic PET bottles and aluminum cans of any brand for 5 cents per container.
He says he collects recyclables to keep his community cleaner while earning extra money to support his family.
With the cost of living continuing to rise, Senianitu says finding alternative ways to earn an income has become increasingly important.
He says just two trips to a collection point with bags of empty bottles and cans can earn him close to $50.
He says the extra cash goes straight back into his piggery business, helping him purchase mill mix and other supplies needed to care for his livestock.
Senianitu says he hopes more people will see discarded bottles and cans not as waste, but as something with value.
