LTA probes bus fire incident
The Land Transport Authority is now investigating a bus fire incident this morning and will look into the reasons why there was no fire extinguisher on the bus as required.

The LTA said it is mandatory for all buses in Fiji to have fire extinguishers and failure to comply with this will result in the issuance of traffic infringement notice and the company would be liable for prosecution.

Media Officer, Doreen Narayan has urged all bus companies to adhere to what is required of them as safety of the traveling public is always the first priority.

She said the LTA is constantly monitoring all public service vehicles to ensure they adhere with the rules and regulations in place.

The National Fire Authority attended to a fire incident around 7.30 this morning when approaching the Suva Bus Stand, the driver noticed smoke coming out from the engine compartment of the bus.

Chief Fire Officer, Tupou Saumbulinayau said the firefighters used water from tank supply to cool the engine.

There were passengers on board who escaped injuries.
