About 2,500 families benefitted from rural electrification project
About 2,500 families benefitted from the rural electrification project this year.

This is an increase of 1,000 families compared to last year according to the department of energy.

Last year the department used $3.7 million for the rural electrification projects compared to 8 million dollars this year. 

Five diesel scheme projects were completed this year which includes two schools and three villages along with 29 FEA projects, while 2000 individual houses were connected through solar home system.
 
The department of energy also confirms that five of their projects with Fiji Electricity authority is pending for this year as the houses have already been wired and they are awaiting FEA's grid extension.

$8 million has been forecasted by the department for the rural electrification projects next year.
