Three Fijians continue protest at Villawood
Refugee advocates and a leading human rights lawyer in Australia have called for police to talk to three Fijians out of a roof protest taking place at Sydney’s Villawood Immigration Detention Centre.

The three climbed on top of the building last week in a last attempt to stop a woman and her husband, who is not on the roof, from being deported back to Fiji.

One of the over-stayers Sai Bulewa said he does not want to return to Fiji because of alleged abuse against homosexuals here.

A Fijian government spokesperson has told Fijivillage that Fiji has some of the most liberal gay laws in the Pacific and the government has specifically decriminalized acts between consenting adults.

The spokesperson said the truth is they have nothing to fear.

Australia’s Department of Immigration said SERCO, the company that runs the facility, has trained negotiators at the scene.
