Former Fiji resident, Narendra Nambiar who currently resides in Christchurch has revealed that the Fiji community in the city is safe following the massive earthquake over the weekend.
Namibiar who resides in Wainoni place in Christchurch and was also the former secretary for Taekwondo Fiji told Fijivillage that following the quake, he made calls straight away to the close-knit Fijian community where he was informed that many of them were in shock.
Meanwhile according to Radio New Zealand the state of emergency for the city has been extended until Wednesday as much of central Christchurch and its surrounding towns remained shut down because buildings are still deemed unsafe.
Prime Minister John Key told Morning Report the total cost and extent of the damage still cannot be quantified, so no really big decisions can yet be made.
