Sigatoka residents frustrated over repeated water cuts lasting 11 days

Residents of Malaqereqere in Sigatoka have expressed their frustration and are calling on the Water Authority of Fiji to explain why their water supply has been disrupted for the last six to 11 consecutive days.

A resident, who wished to remain anonymous, told fijivillage News that when the water supply is restored, it only lasts for a maximum of three days before being cut off again.

She says while they currently have a water supply, the pressure remains very low.

She further says that many families in the area are affected by the ongoing water outages and now feel helpless as there appears to be no permanent solution.

The resident also says WAF sends water trucks; however, the water provided is not enough to meet household needs and other daily activities that require water.

The resident says the situation becomes even more difficult for families during events such as funerals and other family gatherings.

She says they have made several complaints to the WAF offices in Sigatoka and Suva, where they were informed that the issue was due to low water pressure.

The concerned resident questioned how low pressure could continue to be an issue so frequently.

She is calling on WAF to permanently address the issue and suggested that if low pressure is the cause, water rationing should be implemented so residents can at least have access to water at certain times instead of going without water for up to 11 consecutive days.

We have sent questions to WAF.
