Schools in Naitasiri, Namosi, Rewa, Ra, Lau and Kadavu to remain closed tomorrow

Most schools across Fiji will reopen tomorrow, with the Ministry of Education confirming that schools in Naitasiri, Namosi, Rewa, Ra, Lau and Kadavu will remain closed due to flooding, adverse weather conditions and transportation challenges.

Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro says that in consultation with the National Disaster Risk Management Office, the Fiji Meteorological Service, and relevant authorities, he has continued to closely monitor the weather situation and its impacts across the country.

He says based on the latest situation report received today, all schools in the Central Division will resume except for Naitasiri, Namosi, and Rewa schools due to ongoing flooding and unsafe access routes.

In the Western Division, all schools will resume except for Ra Education District schools which will close due to adverse weather conditions and related safety concerns.

In the Eastern Division, all schools will resume except for Lau and Kadavu Education district schools due to persistent strong winds, heavy rainfall, rough sea conditions, and transportation challenges, particularly for students who rely on boat travel.

All schools in the Northern Division and those that are not mentioned above, are to resume normal operations from tomorrow.

Radrodro says parents and guardians are encouraged to exercise discretion in sending their children to school and prioritize the safety of their children.

He says school leaders are advised to continue monitoring their school operations and maintain close communication with their respective Divisional and District Education Offices.

Radrodro says the Ministry will continue to liase with the NDRMO, the Fiji Meteorological Service, and other relevant authorities for further updates should conditions change

He stresses the safety and well-being of students, teachers, and school communities remain the Ministry's highest priority.
