The Embassy of Japan has confirmed receiving an application from Tailevu North College to rebuild two classroom blocks destroyed by a tornado but says no decision has been made at this stage.
The issue was raised by school officials when the Fijian Media Association visited the school last Friday.
The two classroom blocks were destroyed in April 2020 and have still not been rebuilt.
School officials say they believe the project will go ahead, although the Embassy of Japan has not confirmed this as yet.
The issue was also discussed during the Fijian Media Association Town Hall Forum, where Opposition Leader Inia Seruiratu said the project was on the list for assistance from the Japan International Cooperation Agency.
The Embassy of Japan says the final decision has not been made.
The students continue to have classes in tents donated by UNICEF, and there is no timeframe on when the classroom blocks will be rebuilt.
