Lawyer admits misconduct after failing to appear for client
Suva lawyer Sanil Sanjay Kumar has pleaded guilty to unsatisfactory professional misconduct for failing to appear in court for his client. 

Kumar, from Tufani Lawyers, charged with unsatisfactory professional conduct, appeared before Independent Legal Services Commissioner Justice Daniel Goundar.

The lawyer, on 29th August last year and thereafter, failed to appear and obtain leave of the Suva High Court to withdraw as counsel in a Suva High Court criminal case.

This is a breach of Chief Justices Practice Direction No 1 of 2011 titled Withdrawal of Counsel in Criminal Proceedings.

The matter has been adjourned to 10th July for either sanctioning or a mention.
