FICAC lawyer Joseph Work has informed the court that there is an alleged confession by Suva lawyer Tanya Waqanika in her caution interview in the matter where she is charged for allegedly breaching Political Parties Act.
Waqanika appeared before Suva Magistrate Yogesh Prasad this morning.
She is charged for allegedly breaching Section 14 of the Political Parties Act.
It is alleged that on or about 19th of April 2024, while serving as a public officer, namely a Board Member of Investment Fiji and Telecom Fiji Limited, Waqanika publicly indicated opposition to the political party SODELPA.
Work informed the court that pre-trial documents were emailed to Waqanika’s counsel Barbara Malimali last night.
Malimali says they are not challenging the caution interview.
She says the confessions are admission of board membership.
The matter has been adjourned to the 16th of June for Pre-Trial Conference where a trial date is expected to be set.
