The owner of the Gun City store in Christchurch has admitted selling four firearms to the alleged gunman.

Gun City owner David Tipple said the store sold four category‑a firearms and ammunition to Brenton Tarrant, the only man charged with murder after Friday's attacks on two Christchurch mosques.

Tipple said the last purchase was made in March 2018, but he did not believe the rifle used in the attack was bought from his store.

St John staff have also described their experiences to the media this afternoon and ambulance officer Paul Bennett says it was the most horrific scene he has ever come across.

Earlier today, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said there would be changes to New Zealand gun laws in the wake of the Christchurch mosque attacks and it would be discussed in today's Cabinet meeting.

The attacks on Friday at Al Noor and Linwood Mosques left 50 people dead and another 50 wounded.
