Tabakaucoro backs QVS new off season program for Coke Games success

Former national sprinter Banuve Tabakaucoro says the Queen Victoria School management has for the first time introduced an organised off-season athletics program to better prepare its athletes for next year’s Coca-Cola Games.

Tabakaucoro says QVS has consistently finished in the top three to top five at the Coca-Cola Games over the years, despite not having a structured off-season training program.

He believes this new initiative will give the athletes a stronger platform heading into the 2025 season.

He says most of the athletes taking part in the program are the same students who represented QVS at this year’s Coca-Cola Games, while the only newcomers will be the Year 9 students joining the school next year.

QVS Athletics Taskforce representative, Taione Masiwale says their main target for today’s fundraising event is to collect $20,000.

Masiwale says the funds will support key areas such as coaching expenses, essential training equipment, and basic needs like nutritious meals to ensure students are in top condition—physically, mentally, and academically.

He says the aim of the off-season training is not only to build athletic strength and performance, but also to support the students spiritually, mentally, and academically as they prepare for the season ahead.
