The inclusion of All Blacks tighthead prop Tyrell Lomax and first five-eighth/fullback Ruben Love adds power and class to the Hurricanes’ bench.
Both players are in line to make their first appearances of the season after overcoming their respective injuries.
Lomax returns for his first appearance for the Hurricanes since breaking his thumb while on All Blacks duty last September.
Love is available after sustaining an ankle injury during a pre-season training camp in Palmerston North.
Ex-England international Brad Shields is named at blindside flanker in what will be his 100th Super Rugby start.
His inclusion pushes Hastings local Devan Flanders to No 8, with co-captain Du’Plessis Kirifi kept at openside flanker.
