The Highlanders know they face a tough challenge when they take on the Crusaders in the opening match of the Super Rugby season, but they say they’re ready for the battle in the first-round clash.
Highlanders assistant coach Ben Smith says getting everyone on the same page on game day will be crucial.
He adds that the team had a strong pre-season and the players understand what’s required when facing a champion side like the Crusaders.
Smith, a former All Black and Highlanders veteran, says the squad is well aware of the standards set in camp and is eager to deliver when it matters.
He says it’s encouraging to have a good mix of new talent and experienced players, while also acknowledging the quality the Crusaders bring.
The Highlanders take on the Crusaders this Friday at Forsyth Barr Stadium in Dunedin, with kick-off at 6:05pm.
