After a disappointing end to their 2025/2026 HSBC World 7s Series campaign, the Fiji Airways Men's National 7s side have turned their focus to the first HSBC World 7s Championship that will kick off this week in Hong Kong.
Captain Jeremaia Matana says they did not give up trying to win the series even though they won fewer tournaments than South Africa.
He says it was disappointing that they lost in the final of the New York 7s, which decided the series winner, but he is grateful to the players for giving their all.
Matana says going into the tournament in Hong Kong, they will have to tighten up their defence.
He adds that this is something he saw lacking in previous tournaments and it has been their focus during training.

Fiji has won the Hong Kong 7s 19 times, more than any other team since its inception in 1976.
The last time Fiji won the title was in 2019, ending their five-year winning streak.
The Fiji Men’s 7s side will begin their Hong Kong 7s campaign against Germany at 5.11pm Friday, followed by Great Britain at 8.21pm, before taking on France at 4.13pm Saturday in their final pool match.
