The Fiji Airways Men’s National 7s side is now focusing on improving its discipline, which they identified as an area that was lacking during the McDonald Coral Coast Fiji 7s.
Captain Jerry Matana says he believes the team’s performance at the Coral Coast 7s highlighted discipline issues, which they addressed when training resumed this week.
He says preparations have intensified for the two upcoming tournaments in Singapore and Perth, with loopholes in their game now being worked on.
Matana also says he has been encouraging the new players joining the squad, telling them that this is their team and that they should show the same confidence when playing as they do for their clubs.
Coach Osea Kolinisau has revealed that more players will be joining the extended squad, with the door open for them to fight for a spot in the team that will compete in the World 7s Series tournaments.
Fiji has been drawn in a tough pool in Singapore, where they will open their campaign against Great Britain at 4.32pm next Saturday, before playing Spain at 7.58pm and South Africa at 11.46pm on the same day.
Meanwhile, the Fijiana 7s side will take on Australia at 3.26pm next Saturday in their first pool match. They will then face the USA at 6.30pm before playing Japan at 9.56pm on the same day.
