The Fiji Airways Men’s National 7s side is sharpening its focus on mental toughness and handling real-game pressure as they gear up for the McDonald’s Fiji Coral Coast 7s, which kicks off today.
Head Coach Osea Kolinisau says training sessions have been designed to push players beyond their physical limits, testing their core skills and defensive decision-making under fatigue.
He explains that the goal is to see how well players can stay focused and make smart decisions under pressure.
Kolinisau shares that many players perform well when they are fresh, but it is a different story when they’re tired and gasping for air.
He says building mental toughness is now a top priority, with training crafted to strengthen resilience and focus when energy levels are low.
Kolinisau admits that rival teams have improved, but he remains firm that Fiji will not stray from its identity.
He adds that their daily sessions continue to focus on passing accuracy, offloads, and support play, but stresses that structure and discipline are equally important to avoid becoming one-dimensional.

Kolinisau says the key to staying competitive on the world stage is striking the right balance between discipline, structure, and Fijian flair.
The Coral Coast Sevens gets underway at 9am today and runs through to Saturday at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka.
The Singapore 7s will be held from 31st January to 1st February while the Perth 7s will be held on the 7th and 8th of February.
