Brumbies staying grounded after statement win ahead of Blues blockbuster

The ACT Brumbies are determined to stay grounded following their emphatic 50–24 win over the Crusaders in Christchurch, with lock Lachie Shaw describing the result as a statement, but not a finished product.

The Brumbies’ dominant performance ended a 26-year drought in Christchurch and moved them to two wins to start the season.

After more than 15 weeks of training together during pre-season, Shaw says the cohesion within the squad is beginning to show.

Despite the result, Shaw was quick to stress that there is still room for improvement in the Brumbies’ game.

He says they cannot let it get to their heads and are staying grounded in what they are trying to achieve week to week.

Attention now turns to a blockbuster clash against the Blues at GIO Stadium tomorrow night — the Brumbies’ first home game of the season.

After weeks on the road during trials and the opening rounds, Shaw says returning to Canberra provides a lift.

He says having a home game is huge for them, and they are keen to put on a good show for the fans.

Shaw expects a strong response from the Blues, particularly after the Brumbies defeated them in Auckland last season.

The Brumbies will face the Blues at 8.35pm tomorrow.

In other matches, Moana Pasifika will take on the Force at 6.05 tonight, the Reds will meet the Highlanders at 8.35 tonight, the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua will play the Hurricanes at 3.35pm tomorrow, and the Chiefs will face the Crusaders at 6.05pm tomorrow.
