Gallagher Premiership club Northampton Saints has announced the signing of 20-year-old English-qualified Fijian winger Amena Caqusau for this season from Glasgow Warriors.

Caqusau was born in Salisbury but travelled north of the border to study at Queen Victoria School in Dunblane for seven years.

He featured for Scotland at age-grade level in both the Under-18s and the Under-20s, starting three times in last year’s Six Nations Championship.

While talking about his signing, Caqusau says he is happy to be making the move to Northampton Saints as he has been watching the Premiership his whole life, and he has enjoyed watching Saints play over the last couple of years.

He says the league is very competitive and that’s an exciting opportunity for him.

He adds Northampton is also a lot closer to home for him, so he will be able to see more of his family, and it is a place where rugby is at the heart of the local community.

Caqusau says it is clear to see how much the Club means to the supporters, and how much love the supporters share for the team, so that was also something that attracted him.

He says he always tries to bring speed and flair to his game, and being Fijian, that is something we pride ourselves on, and he just wants to be able to contribute to the Saints as best he can.

Northampton’s Director of Rugby Phil Dowson believes that Caqusau will offer a different sort of threat for his squad.

Dowson says they are excited to see what Caqusau can do in the open field.

He says the Fijian winger has an eye for a break and also has a good feel for making shots in defence as well.

He adds that Caqusau is hungry to play and to show what he is capable of, and the club is keen to have him in their environment to give him the chance to work and develop.
