The Ratu Kadavulevu School U19 rugby team has retained the Roger Fatiaki Shield after defeating Church College Fiji 20-7 this afternoon at the Church College Fiji ground.

The last time the two teams played for the Shield was in 2009.

Back in the days the schools would compete for this trophy in commemoration of a student named Roger Fatiaki who attended both schools.

Fatiaki had a tragic accident after attending school in Lodoni, and since then both the Schools had agreed to always have a memory for him in having a trophy to play every year.

The challenge used to be a annual event between the two schools but it came to a halt due to the unavailability of players.

RKS came in as favourites as they have been participating in the secondary schools rugby competition for a long time but this did not deter the boys from Tamavua as they held their own.

RKS managed to only score two tries in the first half to lead 10-0 at half time.

Despite the lead, Church College did not waiver as they tried their best to break RKS defence.

RKS managed to scored another two tries within five minutes into the second half to extend their lead to 20-0 but Church College continued to put pressure on them.

Through determination and a few reckless plays from RKS, the boys from Tamavua banded together and pushed forward for a try.

They were rewarded with a try through a pick and drive from the forwards to close the gap to 20-7.

RKS tried their best to score but Church College's defence stood tall.

Before the Shield presentation, the players from Church College presented gifts to the boys from Delainakaikai to show courtesy and respect to their counterparts.
