Fiji has been selected as one of the countries to participate in the Trinbago 2023 Commonwealth Youth Games 7s competition in Trinidad and Tobago from August 4th to 11th.

For the first time in more than six years, some of the finest young rugby sevens athletes from around the globe will have the chance to compete for gold after the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) announced the nations selected for the games.

Trinidad and Tobago, Canada, Jamaica, Scotland, Fiji, and South Africa will participate in the men’s competition while Trinidad and Tobago, Canada, Wales, Fiji, Kenya, and champions Australia will take part in the women’s competition.

This year’s tournament marks the seventh Commonwealth Youth Games dating back to the original event that took place in Edinburgh, Scotland in 2000.

Trinidad and Tobago were initially awarded the 2021 Commonwealth Youth Games in June 2019, but the Games were postponed due to the impact of the pandemic on the international sports calendar.

Trinbago 2023 will see more than 1,000 athletes and para-athletes, between the ages of 14-18, from the 72 nations and territories, participate in a total of seven sports including Rugby Sevens, Aquatics (Swimming), Athletics and Para Athletics, Cycling and Triathlon, as well as FAST5 Netball, and Beach Volleyball.
