Former Fiji Airways Men’s National 7s rep and Rio Olympic gold medallist Masivesi Dakuwaqa has been suspended from his Biarritz Olympique club in France for allegedly attacking and biting one of his teammates which resulted in his teammate needing 20 stitches to his cheek.

Biarritz Olympique released a statement confirming the serious incident that occurred between the two players and that an internal investigation would take place.

The incident had happened during a night out and witnesses say that the scuffle started from a money dispute and Dakuwaqa’s teammate was injured after he tried to intervene between the Fijian loose forward and another player.

Dakuwaqa has admitted to biting his teammate but has not given any reason as to why he did so since he does not recall what happened that night.

The 30-year-old has been suspended from the club and is due to appear in court in May 2025.

In a statement, Biarritz says they take this incident very seriously and have immediately taken the necessary measures and full cooperation is ensured with the relevant authorities.

They say appropriate sanctions will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
