40 former Fiji rugby sevens stars will be reunited in an emotional and historic gathering at the Fiji Bitter Marist 7s, celebrating their legacy and honouring their contribution in helping build Fiji’s global dominance in rugby at the 50th anniversary of the Hong Kong Sevens.
Fiji rugby legend Waisale Serevi says that in a powerful show of unity, respect, and pride, 40 former players answered the call, surpassing the original target of 30 as the nation prepares to celebrate one of the most iconic milestones in world rugby.

He adds that the reunion brings together some of Fiji’s most celebrated names in the sport, including Sireli Bobo, Jiuta Lutumailagi, William Ryder, Kini Murimurivalu, Vereniki Waqa, Lemeki Duidomo, Emosi Vucago, Waisake Bole, Mikaele Leawere, Kini Salabogi, Viliame Satala, Osea Kolinisau, Emosi Mulevoro, Ifereimi Rawaqa, Samuela Saumaisue, Alifereti Doviverata, Setefano Cakau, Rupeni Caucaunibuca, Manasa Bari, Ilai Tinai, Sakeasi Vonolagi, Sisaro Koyamaibole, and Mesake Rasari, among many others.
He says that fans can expect some of these legends to play in the Marist 7s.
The event is not only about competition but about reconnecting—giving former teammates the rare opportunity to meet again, reflect on their journeys, and celebrate the brotherhood that defines rugby.
Serevi also pays tribute to Coach Saiasi Fuli, recognising his contributions to Fiji rugby, including his success at the Commonwealth Games and his role in developing women’s rugby—highlighting the importance of inclusivity and growth in the sport.
He emphasises that rugby is built on teamwork, not individual success, and says the celebration is a testament to the collective sacrifices and achievements of players over the past five decades.
He also highlights the importance of the Hong Kong Sevens in elevating rugby sevens globally, contributing to the rise of the international series and ultimately helping secure the sport’s place in the Olympics.
He says Fiji’s flair, passion, and success in the tournament have been central to that journey.
He adds that beyond the field, rugby continues to be one of Fiji’s strongest ambassadors, promoting the nation worldwide and contributing significantly to tourism and national identity.
He adds that this is the best way to say thank you to these legends.
