Uate relishing playing for Sea Eagles

Uate relishing playing for Sea Eagles

Manly Sea Eagles winger Akuila Uate

He earned the nickname “Thriller” at the Knights after a nine‑year career and now Manly Sea Eagles winger Akuila Uate is turning back the clock after what he described as a “disappointing exit” with the Knights last season.

Newcastle’s loss is the Sea Eagles’ gain and it has been a wild journey for the 29‑year‑old but his 80‑minute performance against the Titans last week was a true reflection of just how much Uate has relished a change of environment under coach Trent Barrett.

He has scored seven tries and played in every game for the Sea Eagles in the opening 11 rounds of the NRL Premiership and is averaging over 118 metres with eight line breaks in total.

Uate is also expected to be part of the Vodafone Fiji Bati squad to the Rugby League World Cup later this year.

The Sea Eagles will be on bye this week while the Rabbitohs will face the Eels at 9.50pm Friday.
