Team Fiji has won two gold medals in the Lawn bowling competition of the Pacific Games.
They took gold in the Women’s Triple event after beating Niue and the Men’s single event after beating Norfolk Island.
49-year-old, Semesa Naiseruvati who won gold in the Men’s single event says the win is special as it will be his last Pacific Games.
Litia Tikoisuva who was part of the team that won gold in the Women’s triple event says they had a tough battle with Niue but it was teamwork that got them the win.
Pacific Sprint King, Banuve Tabakaucoro clocked the fastest time in the 200 metres heats this afternoon to cruise through to the semifinals.
Tabakaucoro clocked a time of 21.47secs while Aaron Powell finished second in his heat with a time of 22.38 seconds.
Tabakaucoro currently holds the 200 metres record which is 21.18 secs.
His personal best is 20.68secs
Papua New Guinea’s Pio Piniau will be Tabakaucoro’s main threat after clocking the second fastest time of 22.19secs.
Nelson Stone was the fourth fastest qualifier with a time of 22.33secs.
In the Men’s 1,500 metres, Stephen Sandy finished first in his heat while Inia Sili finished in second place.
Alaiwalu Rayawa finished third in her 400 metres heat with a time 56.88secs. She was beaten by Burua Betty and Toea Wisil of PNG.
The 400m, 1500m and 10,000m finals will be held tonight.
The Fiji Pearls will face Cook Islands at 7 tonight.
In soccer, the Vodafone Fiji Under 23 soccer team is trailing New Caledonia 1-0 in the second semi-final. It is almost half time. Tahiti beat Papua New Guinea 2-1 in the first semi-final.
Looking at the Legend FM Pacific Games medal tally, Papua New Guinea is leading with 48 gold, 37 silver and 34 bronze. New Caledonia is in second place with 33 gold, 32 silver and 28 bronze.
Team Fiji is now in third place with 27 gold, 30 silver and 23 bronze.
