The first round of the 2015‑16 HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series seems like a very, very long time ago.
Sixteen teams descended on Dubai, packed full of new faces to contest the opener.
By Saturday evening, the Vodafone Fiji 7s team had already made their intentions clear to their rivals: They will start as they mean to go on.
Nine rounds and three trophy lifts later, Fiji have a consecutive series title within their grasp.
On 166 points, they can wrap up the series by getting through to the Cup quarter‑final at the London Sevens, putting it out of reach of South Africa who sit on 152 points.
Mathematics aside, it has been one incredible series for the Fiji team who have had three first‑place finishes, two second‑place finishes and two third‑place finishes on the series so far, with their worst result in Cape Town where they won the Plate.
Captain Osea Kolinisau said it has been a good season and feels like a long time since the first tournament in Dubai, but they have really tried to build as a team throughout the series and make the people of Fiji proud.
World Rugby rates Fiji as the most exciting team to watch on the 2015/16 HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series with incredible attacking play followed by offloads and support lines that would inspire any young fan.
Kolinisau said they are almost there but they need to keep focused on the tournament and getting the job done.
Ryan is expected to name his final 12 later today.
Fiji will face England at 11.04pm tomorrow in their first pool match of the London 7s.
The national side will then play Wales at 1.48am Sunday while the last pool match against Australia will be at 4.54am Sunday.
The Cup quarter finals will start at 9:58pm Sunday while the Cup semifinals will kick off at 1:48am Monday.
The Cup final will kick off at 4:57am Monday.
