Highlanders beat Blues while Rebels defeat Reds

The Highlanders have defeated the Blues 41-34 in last nights Super Rugby Match.

The scoreboard ticked over at a rapid rate and the lead constantly changed in a high quality contest that warned the rest of the competition that the Kiwi teams will again set the pace in 2018.

Tana Umaga’s Blues team led 24‑17 at halftime as five‑eighth Bryn Gatland scored a try and directed play expertly but Antonio Kiri Kiri’s second half yellow card proved costly

Tei-horangi Walden scored two tries while the substitute Blues flanker was in the bin and the Highlanders were later able to counter a loose scrum from the visitors in the final play of the game to delight their loud home crowd.

In another match the Rebels took full advantage of their season opening Super Rugby clash over the Reds claiming a 45‑19 win.

New Reds skipper Scott Higgin-botham was sent off for a dangerous shoulder charge after just nine minutes.

It was a reckless act from Higginbotham who was clearly pumped up to make an early physical statement.

In today’s games the Sunwolves takes on the Brumbies at 4.15pm, defending champions the Crusaders will play the Chiefs at 6.35pm, while the Waratahs will host the Stormers at 8.45pm.

Tomorrow the Lions play the Jaguares at 1.05am and the Bulls will take on the Hurricanes at 3.15am.
